The 2014 American Music Awards will air on Sunday night, and in addition to performing, Iggy Azalea is also nominated in multiple categories. Two of those happen to be hip-hop categories, where she’ll go up against Eminem, after feuding with him this week.
The New Classic rapper is nominated for six awards in total, including Artist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. But in the hip-hop genre, she’s up for Favorite Artist and Favorite Album in addition to nominations for Single of the Year and Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock.
She’s pitted against Drake and Shady in both hip-hop categories, and the timing is coincidental after their recent exchange.
Eminem previewed a snippet of a new song called “Vegas,” in which he directed a controversial lyric about rape towards Iggy. She responded by blasting him on Twitter, calling him an “old man” who’s targeting young women for entertainment.
While Eminem is clearly a legacy artist, and Drake was in constant rotation this year, Iggy owned the summer with “Fancy,” so it wouldn’t be a huge shock if she takes home both trophies. Sunday night should be interesting.
