A fantastic hat-trick from Chelsea's newest goal-scoring sensation Diego Costa,
a goal on debut from Loic Remy and another couple of assists from former
Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas were just some of the highlights of the day at
Stamford Bridge as Chelsea maintained their 100% start to the new season with
another goal feast as they thumped Swansea City 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.
The battle of the top 2 at the
start of the day went comfortably the way of the hosts as Chelsea raised their
game in the second half and Swansea had absolutely no answer to the quality on
display by Jose Mourinho's title favourites.
It wasn't all Chelsea though as
Swansea started the game really well with their wingers stretching the Chelsea
defence and the Swans getting a free goal in the 11th minute as John Terry
inadvertently turned Neil Taylor's cross into his own net.
The Blues struggled to get in the
game for the first half hour, but slowly started finding their stride as the
half progressed. The vital moment of the game came right on the stroke of
half-time as Diego Costa headed home the equalizer after some ordinary
defending from Swansea inside their own 6 yard box to allow Chelsea to go into
the break level pegging.
Jose Mourinho made a change at
half-time bringing on Ramires for Andre Schurrle, which allowed Cesc Fabregas
to play higher up the pitch, relieved of his defensive duties alongside Nemanja
Matic. The moved paid instant dividends as the Spaniard danced his way around
the Swansea backline before producing the perfect cut back for Costa to slam
home his second.
The Blues were out of sight
shortly after the hour mark with Costa latching on to a poorly hit shot from
Ramires to stab home, once again from close range. The Brazilian-born Spanish
striker's instincts inside the box are second to none and he was duly removed
after his goal to give his injured hamstrings a breather.
In Costa's place came Loic Remy
and he celebrated his arrival as a Blue with a goal on cue as he carved in a
well taken effort into the far corner after Oscar laid the ball back for him
unselfishly.
Swansea worked hard till the end,
grabbing a consolation from the boot of Jonjo Shelvey with the former Liverpool
lad finishing calmly after being played through on goal, but all that did was
sour Jose Mourinho's mood a bit before the press conference as Chelsea
celebrated another goal rich win.
The Blues next take on Schalke in
midweek in the Champions League and can afford to rotate their players given
their relatively easy group before heading to Manchester next weekend to take
on the Premier League champions Manchester City.
