Club Owner Calls For Ban On Beards, Fines Players £7,000

80 year-old Football club owner directs gripe at UEFA for letting footballers play with beards, takes first action in fining players £7,000 each if they grow beards

An 80 year-old club owner in Turkey, Ilhan Cavcav is in an unhappy state with World football, UEFA most especially for allowing players with beards play the game.
Cavcav who owns Turkish club, Genclerbirligisays it is unsportsmanlike for soccer stars to keep beards and went as far as instituting a£7,000 (N1.9m).
Explaining that at 80, he shaves every day and advised the younger ones to better role models for the youths.
 ”I am 80 years old and I shave every day. You are a sportsman. You should be a model for youth.”
The Octogenarian was disappointed when he was told by the Turkish Football Association that his call for ban on beards would not be permitted as it contravened UEFA’s rule
”They told me that they could not impose such a restriction because the UEFA would not let them do it.
”I am fed up with this UEFA. I wish we had some other place to play our football,” he said
He cited Turkey’s national team goalkeeper, Volkan Demirel as the biggest culprit.
