Chelsea have raced ahead of local rivals Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool in
the battle to sign Marco Reus, with Jose Mourinho even prepared to part ways
with one World Cup winning superstar to bring home another, according to
reports in the Express.
Reus has been the subject of
intense speculation since the last summer transfer window and his refusal to
sign a new contract at Borussia Dortmund has only served to embolden his
pursuers. Mourinho is learnt to be an ardent admirer of the classy forward and
‘The Special One’ might even go as far as to sacrifice Andre Schurrle in a swap
deal if that guarantees him an opportunity to field Reus.
Reus was once again diagnosed
with an ankle injury in September, however it turned out to be a temporary
glitch as he returned the following month to help his side’s cause. The German
has scored 5 goals in 9 games so far this season.
The 25 year old reportedly has a
£25 million buyout clause in his contract, which might still give hope to the
likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, but given Chelsea’s total
dominance of the Premier League so far, this is one race that is Chelsea's to
lose.
