Arsenal may have successfully enamoured unsettled Italian striker Mattia
Destro, as the sharpshooter himself has welcomed rumours linking him with a move
to North London.
In excerpts of an interview
carried in the London Evening Standard, Destro said, “Arsenal
for me? The rumours are good, I’m happy for them. This is the proof that I’m
doing my work well.”
Destro was previously also linked
with a move to Chelsea in the summer. The 23 year old narrowly missed out on
making the World Cup squad for Italy this year, but has been earmarked for
future greatness after scoring 22 goals in 49 appearances for Roma.
Despite giving his side a decent
return, the Italy international has found game time hard to come by at the
Stadio Olimpico. His falling out with Roma manager Rudi Garcia, who publicly
questioned his character has done little to endear him to life in Italy.
All of this could work out to
Arsenal’s advantage, who are still struggling to find that clinical finisher in
front of goal. More importantly the young striker could provide just the sort
of competition Danny Welbeck requires to lift his game. The forward may however
not be available until next season.
