Van Gaal’s job description gets a little more tricky

Manchester United have spent a staggering £153.1 million in the transfer market this season to realize Louis Van Gaal’s idea of the perfect team. But in accepting all that financial clout, Van Gaal might have inadvertently tightened the noose around his neck.
The Independent reports that the Dutch tactician has been given the not so simple task of finishing no lower than ‘third’ this season and a failure to do so could result in yet another ignominious exit at Old Trafford.
United have already predicted a drop of £48 million in their revenue collection for next year, as a result of failing to qualify for European football this season and even that has factored in a third place finish this campaign. Ed Woodward recently told journalists, “Our [forecast] budgets assume a third-placed finish, as is ordinarily the case.”
United are currently ranked 14th in the Barclays Premier League table, after Van Gaal lost two and drew two in his first four competitive matches. With reinforcements having arrived thick and fast, the Dutch tactician is expected to get his stuttering side back on the track and register his first win as soon as next Sunday.
