Chelsea have moved quickly to fill the vacancy in their forward line following
the departure of club record signing Fernando Torres to AC Milan by picking up
Loic Remy on the cheap for £8.5m from Queens Park Rangers. While the
transfer is yet to be made official, QPR Manager Harry Redknapp did reveal in
his pre-match interview today that he had been forced to exclude Remy from his
match day squad as another club had activated the Frenchman's release clause.
Redknapp said, "He was in
the team. I just got a phone call about 12 o'clock to say it looks like he is
going to be moving. The deal looks like it has been done, so I had to make a
change. He didn't refuse to play, but it's difficult to go out there to play
and get your head around it."
When quizzed if Remy was indeed
signing for Chelsea, Redknapp said, "As far as I know."
With Chelsea playing away to
Everton today it is expected that Remy will not be officially unveiled as a
Blue today.
It is also rumoured that a medical
is still pending, which of course in Remy's case is absolutely crucial
considering that his transfer to Liverpool earlier this summer was cancelled
after he failed their medical examination. Chelsea though are unlikely to be as
strict as the Reds when it comes to their player evaluation and the transfer is
widely expected to still go through.
