Blackburn
Rovers sign Shane Duffy from Everton
Blackburn
have spent a little bit of cash this transfer window, buying Everton defender
Shane Duffy for £1.5million. The Republic of Ireland international has
struggled to break into the Toffees' first team and has decided to resurrect
his career with the Rovers.
QPR
sign Alex McCarthy
Liverpool
failed with a late attempt to snatch goalkeeper Alex McCarthy from the
clutches of Queens Park Rangers with the London club signing the Reading man
for a £4 million fee. It will be interesting to see if McCarthy replaces
Robert Green as QPR's new no.1.
Chelsea
turn to Remy to beef up forward line
Diego Costa
has been a huge hit at Chelsea in the brief period that he has spent at
Stamford Bridge but the club is keenly aware of the Spanish International’s
injury record and the Telegraph
reports that they have moved to alleviate those concerns by chasing a backup,
namely Loic Remy. Yes, the same Loic Remy who failed a medical at Liverpool
earlier in the summer. The Blues probably feel they have a better medical team
at the club or conversely they might have a less stringent medical for QPR
forward.
Man
United’s Blind pursuit close to fruition
Patrice
Evra’s influence at Man United seems to be have been so pervasive that the club
have gone out of their way to sign Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and possibly Daley
Blind in one single transfer window. The Daily
Mail reports that the Dutchman is close to joining United after Ajax
accepted a £14m offer, which could be Louis Van Gaal’s last business deal for
the summer after the Arturo Vidal and William Carvalho pursuits hit roadblocks.
Madrid
drop out of Falcao race, leave Arsenal and Juve in a straight battle
Real
Madrid’s financial clout in the transfer market is fairly well documented but
there are times when even Florentino Perez doesn’t see value in throwing
senseless money at players, namely Radamel Falcao. Monaco want €20m to loan the
Colombian out for two-years and Madrid clearly don’t do loan deals, thus
leading the Metro
to report that Arsenal are still in with a great chance of signing the prolific
striker before Monday night.
Cleverley
and Aston Villa locked in transfer bromance
Aston Villa
have been working hard to work out Tom Cleverly’s personal wages, which have
proved to be the stumbling block in the midfielder’s proposed move from Man
United. And, the Midlands club decided that the best way to resolve the issue
would be to send Roy Keane to meet the confidence-lacking 25 year old and one
can only imagine how the exchange between the once prowling King of United’s
midfield and the current scapegoat for the club’s fall from grace went, the Mirror
feels it was all hugs and kisses and contact numbers of real estate agents in
Birmingham.
Agger
heading back home to Brondby
Daniel
Agger has spent the last year or two constantly linked with an exit from
Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers got the leverage he sought when he signed Dejan
Lovren for £20m from Southampton this summer. The Daily
Mail reports that Agger has now been sidelined to such an extent that he is
talks to return to his former club Brondby for a fee reported to be in the
region of £3m, which must come as sad news to all the tattoo artists on
Merseyside.
Barca
and West Ham agree Song deal
West Ham’s
owners and fans have berated Sam Allardyce to use his skills as the pied piper
to inspire more attacking football and ‘Big Sam’ seems to have found the right
voice to occasionally make those forward passes in Alex Song, who has had to
compromise his earlier stand of waiting for Liverpool. The Telegraph
feel that a one year loan deal has been agreed with Barcelona, who were more
than eager to do business with the Hammers for the ex-Arsenal midfielder.
City
have no plans to sell Negredo to Madrid
Man City’s
typically slick start to the Premier League has the pundits and fans purring
about the possibilities for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, but one man who has
missed the party is Alvaro Negredo, who has gone off the radar since picking up
an injury earlier this year. Real Madrid are still interested in the Spaniard
though, as a cheaper alternative to Radamel Falcao. But the Mirror
reports Pellegrini being bullish about the 27 year old staying put at City:
“For the moment there is no news about that, for Negredo or anybody. We are not
receiving any offers for any players.”
Spurs
finally get their hands on a French midfielder
No it isn’t
Morgan Schneiderlin. After rejecting Southampton’s hardball tactics for the
midfielder, Tottenham have found a cheaper alternative who passes all the
requirements- 24 year old French midfielder Benjamin Stambouli. The Montepllier
defensive midfielder will costs Spurs a mere £6m reports the Mirror,
£21m less than what Southampton quoted for Schneiderlin.
‘Arry Redknapp swoops in for Sandro
Harry
Redknap didn’t earn the tag of ‘wheeler-and-dealer’ for nothing and the QPR
boss is out proving that once again as he has swooped in with lightning speed
for Tottenham’s Sandro, who will fall down the pecking order once Stambouli
arrives from Montpellier.
Arsenal locked in talks with Dortmund for Papastathopoulos
The
Daily Mail reports that Borussia
Dortmund are not averse to the idea of talking business with their Champions
League opponents Arsenal, and have asked the Gunners to pay up £20 million if
they are serious about signing 26 year old versatile centre back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Arsenal are predictably balking at the quoted figure and trying to bring the
number down to more manageable proportions.
Arsenal handed Cerci boost
Arsenal
could well sign Italian international winger Alessio Cerci this summer with
Torino's President Urbano Cairo telling Mediaset Premium that he will let the
27 year old leave the club if he receives an offer in the region of £16m. Cairo
said, “Cerci’s sale is still possible and he has asked to leave... I’ve given
him my word that we’ll sell him if an adequate offer arrives. With Milan it’s
all over. Arsenal? There are several options."
