Student Fail Maths Because Of Fear, Need Counselling

Most students fail Mathematics and other science subjects because of fear which can be addressed through counselling.
An educationist and promoter of girl-child education, Mrs. Osiki Erance, said this in an interview with Daily Trust.
Erances, is a civil engineer, a lecturer at the Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, and National Coordinator of Women in Technical Education in Nigeria (WITED), a body which encourages technical education among girls and women.
With reference to the mass failure of Mathematics and English in the May/June West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Erances said there is a need for students' counselling and a public enlightenment campaign to address the trend.
"There’s no place whatever for fear of the course.
"Fear already defeats each individual even before he confronts the so-called problem.
"So that self-defeatist attitude should be addressed through counseling. So we need public enlightenment campaign.
"Information is key to allaying fear of mathematics and science subjects," she said.
She also called for more effort towards ensuring participation of the girl-child in technical education.
