Following Olivier Giroud’s return to training, Arsenal have been handed yet
another injury boost as Mathieu Debuchy has revealed that he could be back on
the pitch as early as next month.
In excerpts of an interview carried
in the Mirror, Debuchy said, “My injury is now better. I work hard every day
with the physio and I want to be back on the pitch in December. I’m looking
forward to it.”
Debuchy had suffered a freak
ankle injury during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the Emirates in
September. The initial assessment had ruled him out of action till the new
year, but the combative Frenchman is desperate to Wenger some much needed good
news.
Debuchy’s absence alongside that
of Laurent Koscielny has cost the Gunners dear in recent matches as Arsenal
have leaked goals gone down from winning positions. The makeshift defence
comprising of Nacho Monreal at the centre and Calum Chambers at the right side
of defence has done little to compliment the hard-earned goals that Alexis
Sanchez has been pumping in at the other side of the pitch. The Gunners have
won 5, lost 4 and drawn 3 matches since Debuchy was sidelined.
